Dia de los Muertos ( Day of the Dead)

I recently photographed a life long vision of mine: Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead: a sacred occasion practiced by Mexicanos honoring deceased relatives through displays of art, music, poetry and colorful creative energy.

Please note that the images in the gallery are black and white, in adherence to the theme of Noir Picture of the Day.

Noir Picture of the Day is a comprehensive display and study of light and shadows. The shadows do not inhibit the light. The shadows are the light!

This was the very first Noir Picture of the Day. It was taken on Thursday, January 4, 2018 on the corner of Walker and Smith streets in Houston, Texas.

Taken with an iPhone XS Max. Many people ask me, “What kind of camera should I get?”, or “Which camera takes the best pictures?” My answer is always this: If you like the picture, then it is a good picture. I then add that a person does not need to spend a lot of money on a camera. In most cases you have the best camera right in your hand - your phone, iPhone or Android. These little devices take amazing pictures and are getting better every year.

If you are interested in becoming a professional, then perhaps it may be worth the investment for a high-end DSLR but now, just grab the camera you have available and go have some fun.

Express yourself.

“If you like the picture you took, then it is a great picture.”

Profound and amazing events have allowed all of us to create some amazing images.
